Ultimately, I aim to be a leader who not only achieves institutional excellence but also fosters a legacy of mentorship, inclusivity, and continuous personal and professional growth.

Philosophy

My leadership is founded on the principles of transparency and empathy, blending servant leadership with a visionary underpinning. I am committed to motivating and connecting my team to a shared vision, while also focusing on their personal and professional development. I believe in fostering an environment where open communication, empathetic feedback, and innovative thinking are not just encouraged but are the foundations for our growth as an institution.

Leadership Story

As a leader, I am driven by a blend of servant leadership and visionary principles. My journey at the McClung Museum has evolved from developing systems and supervising task accuracy to nurturing the holistic development of my team. I believe in motivating through a shared vision, fostering a collaborative environment where voices at all levels are heard and respected.

At the core, my leadership is anchored in transparency, impact, empathy, and innovation. I strive to expand opportunities, ensuring pathways for development and growth within my team. My approach is characterized by a balance of empathy and candor. I do not shy away from critical feedback, understanding its value in driving both personal and professional growth. Additionally, I aspire to create an environment where every team member feels valued, heard, and inspired to reach their full potential.

In facing challenges, whether they are as complex as navigating a museum reopening during a pandemic or as immediate as resolving day-to-day operational hurdles, I employ adaptive strategies that steadfastly center the overall goal, leveraging every available resource and opportunity for creative problem-solving. This includes facing challenges and navigating change as a collective endeavor, enriched by the diverse perspectives of my team and colleagues.

Facing challenges collectively also creates room for creative opportunities such as the development of an innovative creative space, the Elaine Altman Evans Creative Suite, designed to foster deeper visitor engagement through interactive activities and reflective-response elements. This showcases my problem-solving, strategic, and visionary development capabilities connecting the museum mission, staff needs, and our communities in a welcoming environment for skill-sharing and cultural enrichment.

Through self-reflection, continual learning, and seeking feedback, I aim to grow and evolve. Personal and professional development is a continuous journey for me. Similarly, I encourage my team to pursue their aspirations, providing them with resources and support tailored to their unique goals and challenges.

Inclusivity and diversity are not just ideals but practices that I actively integrate into my leadership. From hiring to daily interactions, I strive to create a psychologically safe and physically comfortable environment for all. My vision is to lead in a way that not only achieves institutional goals but also nurtures a culture of belonging, innovation, and shared success.
